The Spanish Mission church and basilica – for which San Francisco is named – is located downtown on Dolores St. It was founded in 1776. The patron saint, St. Francis of Assisi (founder of the Franciscan order), was famous for his love of animals, and for fixing and rebuilding churches – hence, the broom. This status is probably from the early 1900’s when the basilica was built. I’m hanging this shot in my kitchen, hoping it will be, um-er!, inspiring.
